Building on Excellence

St Cross Church, Holywell

Oxford

Overview

The Church of St Cross in Holywell is one of the oldest buildings in the City of Oxford. In 2009, Ballioll College acquired the Church on 999-year lease and proposed to conserve it and create a centre for the care, display and use of its Historic Collections.

Feltham Construction were selected as the main contractor to complete the alterations, restoration and refurbishment of the redundant Grade 1 listed Church.

The project created a dedicated research centre allowing the collections to be more accessible to scholars, students and anyone else with interest in them. The Chancel remained preserved for occasional services.

Full conservation work was undertaken on both the buildings structure as well as the stained glass and painted ceilings.
